ABOUT

Let's face it, it is a tough time to be a kid!

Never-ending social and digital inputs are firing around them on a constant basis, demanding their engagement and attention, while educational and extracurricular expectations on our youth have simultaneously reached an all-time high.

It is no wonder they feel they can't "turn down all that noise."

Kids may still know how to Play but they are losing touch with how to Pause.

Thoughtful Theater's primary goal is to empower your child with the tools to practice BOTH of these crucial life skills!

Studies show that mindfulness (the Pause) is a reliable preventative mental health tool that not only improves emotional regulation, mood, empathy, confidence, self-esteem, and the ability to pay attention and focus, but can also benefit by building coping and social skills that reduce bullying, depression and anxiety.

The best antidote for youth anxiety and depression is active engagement in positive, community-building activities (the Play), and early investment has been proven to dramatically strengthen their mental health and well-being by establishing tools and habits they can use when they move into their challenging teen years.

Our program seeks to meet all of these needs by uniquely blending theater and mindfulness lessons in a totally innovative and specialized way, targeting this pivotal stage of early youth development.

A lesson on diction might begin with a tasting meditation, teaching kids how to savor their words and speak "deliciously".

A lesson on projecting our voice would be paired with a listening meditation, exploring the relationship of locating sounds as an anchor, then producing sounds that can travel to those locations.

Our improv games bring awareness to intentionality coupled with frivolity, building confidence to meet the unexpected moments of life with more courage and humor.

All this, and so much more...

Jen Trevour

Over 40 years of teaching, performing, and directing experience led Jen to the creation of the Thoughtful Theater Program, now celebrating its 10th year running!

After earning her B.A. in Performing Arts from CSUF, Jen acquired both her music credential and master’s degree in education. During her early teaching years, she helped pioneer the Elementary Vocal Program for OUSD where she inspired several hundred students with her motivational curriculum. A move to private education aligned with her personal study of yoga, meditation, and mindfulness, and in 2021, Jen completed her mindfulness certification in Awareness Training from the Greater Good Science Center. These paths merged and culminated in the development and growth of the innovative Thoughtful Theater Program.

Much of her program is inspired from Jen's many years as a seasoned performer. Her theatrical roles include Disneyland's Animazement The Musical, Hello Dolly, Company, Falsettos, Pirates of Penzance, Oklahoma and the original production of Looking For Home. Locally, Jen fronts her own classic rock cover band, Jenny Be Good, appears regularly as a guest musician, and enjoys writing and performing her originals. Jen has performed all over LA and Orange County with artists such as Patti LuPone, Kenny Loggins, Sarah Brightman, Stacey Q, Jason Freese and Roger Daltry. She is presently enjoying her 26th year with Heavenly Voices Productions, featuring The Christmas Belles Carolers and Nightingals, an Andrews Sisters tribute.

Jen currently lives in Newport Beach with her two daughters.
